About ETHOS

Built by engineers, for the underserved.

ETHOS Technology is a security consulting and technology integration firm serving organizations of all sizes. We put ethical hackers and infrastructure engineers on one team, stay independent of vendor quotas, and aim to give 30% of each quarter's net profits to causes beyond security.

Why We Exist

Not a boardroom strategy

ETHOS Technology wasn't born out of a private equity playbook. It came from a frustration shared by customers across the security and IT landscape.

By the end of 2024, trusted value added resellers were disappearing into acquisitions, relationships had become transactional, and organizations were left navigating complex security decisions without real guidance. Technology was advancing quickly — service, accountability, and craftsmanship were falling behind.

That gap is where ETHOS began. Customers can feel when a company was built to extract value rather than create it. We exist to make sure that doesn't happen to them again.

It started with the mid-market, and it hasn't stayed there. Larger organizations now come to us by referral asking for the same thing, so we serve companies of every size — the approach is what carries over, not the headcount.

See what we do

“ETHOS was built by engineers for organizations that want real security outcomes — not sales-driven solutions.”

Ethos (n): the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution.

Mission

To provide pragmatic security solutions while making a meaningful impact through philanthropic initiatives.

Vision

To redefine what it means to be a security partner — trusted, agile, and relational.

Core Values

What we hold ourselves to

Uncommonly Good Service

We take pride in a white-glove service experience where excellence and attentiveness are at the forefront. We don't just deliver solutions, we exceed expectations — staying engaged, communicating proactively, and providing tailored, actionable guidance that aligns with your business goals.

Integrity and Accountability

Doing the right thing is non-negotiable. We take full ownership of our work and hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity: transparent with clients, following through on commitments, and addressing challenges with honesty and clarity.

Pragmatic Expertise

We combine deep technical knowledge with a practical, results-oriented approach, delivering clear guidance that cuts through complexity. Our consulting is grounded in real-world experience — helping you understand your risks and take decisive steps forward.

Impact Beyond Security

Our mission extends beyond securing systems. ETHOS is committed to using its success to support initiatives providing food, clean water, medicine, and education. Every project we complete helps further that cause.

What Sets Us Apart

Four things you will notice

White-Glove Service

Senior practitioners stay involved from discovery through execution — not just kickoff and reporting.

Hacker-Savvy Expertise

Assessments are led by adversary-minded practitioners who understand how attackers actually break systems, not just how controls look on paper.

Vendor-Agnostic Approach

Guidance driven by risk and outcomes — not quotas, partnerships, or product incentives — so recommendations are made solely in your interest.

Social Impact

We actively support initiatives that improve access to food, clean water, education, and healthcare.

30%

our quarterly giving goal

We aim to give 30% of each quarter's net profits, and usually hit it — while staying competitively priced in the market. Some quarters we hold back for taxes or to keep cash on hand for a large order.

Impact Beyond Security — 2025
  • 50,000 meals with Philabundance, whose mission is to end food insecurity across nine counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.
  • Water wells with charity: water, delivering water projects that let children and families live healthier lives and attend school.
  • Mental health with Vibrant, which runs community programs and crisis lines including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
How We Operate

Four principles

These are the commitments every new team member is onboarded against. They govern how we run the business, not just how we talk about it.

In short, be uncommon.

We are inspired by the idea that we can make a living while simultaneously improving the world and the lives of others. Through our success as a business we can accomplish more giving than any of us could alone. We will also be honest, humble, and responsible for the mistakes we make along the way.

This business doesn't have the inherent right to exist. Its value is determined by our customers and exists for our customers. What is valuable is expected to change over time, but may be measured in our customers' experience, our technical knowledge, ease of doing business with us, our communication, and our innovative delivery of outcomes.

Technology inspires us. We are tinkerers, enthusiasts, and problem solvers to whom technology isn't work but passion. Technology is also ever evolving, and change continuously brings new risks and opportunities. We must never be content with what is, but strive to increase our value, reduce risk, and be more efficient.

Safeguard our mission of being uncommonly good, valuable, and innovative by operating a sustainable, employee-owned business without outside money or influence. Be frugal, and watch costs.

Founder

Nick Pier

ETHOS was founded by a technologist, not a salesperson. Nick built his career solving real security problems and advocating for customers, and started ETHOS as a solo consulting practice focused on honest, outcome-driven work.

Clients kept asking for the same three things — straight answers without sales pressure, engineering-led guidance instead of reseller bias, and security based on real risk rather than product quotas. Demand grew through referrals, and ETHOS was formed to scale that approach without losing integrity or technical depth.

Looking for our offices?

ETHOS is a distributed team headquartered in Pennsylvania, with consultants and engineers across the Philadelphia, Central Pennsylvania, and Pittsburgh regions, along with New Jersey and Maryland. Our testers and engineers are entirely on-shore.

We work on site when an engagement calls for it — physical penetration testing and datacenter work usually do — and remotely when it doesn't. Keeping the team distributed rather than in leased offices is part of how we stay competitively priced.

Reach us through the contact form, our main line at +1 215-902-2091, or by email — [email protected] for new work, [email protected] for an engagement already under way.
